Service Insight vs Nuvolo

Nuvolo runs on a ServiceNow instance, quotes 14 weeks for its packaged GxP setup and brings in sensor data through integrations. Service Insight puts native LoRaWAN monitoring, CMMS, calibration and AI asset health on one record, with published pricing.

Why teams switch

Predictive maintenance starts with live data on the asset record, not another platform to configure

Nuvolo layers facilities and asset modules on top of ServiceNow and connects to sensor data through integrations. Service Insight connects your critical assets directly, so real-time condition and utilization data sit beside the work orders and Cortex reports on the health of every asset.

The Service Insight approach

  • A standalone platform: no ServiceNow instance to license or configure. Start on Manage, free up to 200 assets with unlimited users.
  • GxP built in: calibration with as-found and as-left readings and IQ/OQ/PQ validation with e-signed records are included with Maintain, in workflows built for 21 CFR Part 11 and Annex 11.
  • Native connectivity: long-range LoRaWAN sensors, or your own LoRaWAN devices, stream condition and utilization data onto the same asset record as work orders and calibration.
  • Maintenance by condition, at a published price: Cortex asset health and utilization reports point maintenance where it is needed, and Monitor is $395 per monitored asset per year.

The point-solution problem

  • A platform prerequisite: Nuvolo is natively built on ServiceNow, and its GxP Asset Management setup service lists a fully configured ServiceNow instance as the starting point.
  • A long road to go-live: that packaged GxP setup is quoted at 14 weeks from project kickoff to production launch, with user acceptance testing and hypercare described alongside it.
  • Sensor data through integrations: Nuvolo Asset & Maintenance is described as working with ERP, BMS and IoT systems, while native monitoring sensors are not documented in its public materials.
  • Quote-based, modular buying: pricing is available upon request, and capabilities are spread across separate modules such as Asset & Maintenance, Space & Workplace and GxP Asset Management.

About Service Insight

Service Insight is the lab and facility operations platform for biotech and pharma: asset management, CMMS, calibration management and environmental, performance and utilization monitoring on one asset record. It was founded by Anthony Uzzo and James Gregory, who previously founded Core Informatics (LIMS and ELN), acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2017.

Connectivity is part of the platform, not an integration project. Long-range LoRaWAN sensors with multi-year battery life cover LN2 tanks, -80 ULT freezers, -20 freezers, 4C refrigerators, cold rooms, CO2 incubators and rooms, and teams can bring their own LoRaWAN devices. Power, door and occupancy sensors measure active vs idle time, and every reading lands on the same record as the asset's work orders, calibration and validation history, visible live on the Digital Twin floorplan.

That shared record is what makes predictive maintenance practical. Cortex turns condition and utilization data into asset health reports, utilization reports and incident context, so teams can move from calendar-based preventive maintenance to maintaining by condition, with AI maintenance recommendations coming soon. Pricing is published on the pricing page.

About Nuvolo

Nuvolo sells Connected Workplace, a facilities and enterprise asset management suite that it describes as "natively built on ServiceNow," the enterprise IT service management platform. The suite is assembled from modules: Asset & Maintenance, Capital Planning & Projects, Real Estate & Portfolio, Space & Workplace and Sustainability & Energy, with OT Security, GxP Asset Management and HTM Asset Management alongside them. For life sciences, it publishes calibration scheduling, vendor SLA tracking, Part 11 and Annex 11 e-signatures and a validation pack with IQ/OQ documentation.

Buying Nuvolo follows the enterprise platform model. Pricing is available upon request, and Nuvolo's packaged GxP Asset Management setup service starts from a fully configured ServiceNow instance and runs 14 weeks from kickoff to production launch. Equipment data comes in through integrations: Trane describes Nuvolo as working with ERP, BMS, IoT and other systems.

Trane Technologies completed its acquisition of Nuvolo on November 3, 2023, and has said it plans to bring Nuvolo together with its building management systems and equipment. That direction centers on building systems, with lab maintenance as one of many workplace use cases.

Switching from Nuvolo to Service Insight

  1. Export your asset register and history. Pull assets, locations, maintenance schedules, vendor contracts and work order history from your Nuvolo and ServiceNow instance so the record carries over.
  2. Map your site hierarchy. Rebuild locations as Site, Building, Floor, Room and Bench so multi-site rollups and the Digital Twin floorplan work from day one.
  3. Connect critical assets. Add Service Insight sensors or your own LoRaWAN devices to freezers, incubators and LN2 tanks, then set alarm thresholds and notifications.
  4. Move calibration and validation into Maintain. Set up calibration schedules with tolerances and IQ/OQ/PQ workflows so new evidence is captured on the asset record. Talk to our team to plan the cutover.

What is the best alternative to Nuvolo for biotech and pharma labs?

Service Insight is the Nuvolo alternative built for lab and facility operations in biotech and pharma. It runs on its own platform, so there is no ServiceNow instance to license and configure first, and it puts native LoRaWAN monitoring, asset management, CMMS, calibration and validation on one asset record. Cortex then turns that live data into asset health and utilization reports, so teams can maintain equipment by condition instead of by calendar alone.

Is Service Insight less expensive than Nuvolo?

Service Insight publishes its pricing: Manage is free up to 200 assets with unlimited users and no per-seat fees, Monitor is $395 per monitored asset per year, and the Enterprise platform fee starts at $17,000 per year plus capability bundles. Nuvolo pricing is quote-based and available upon request. Because Nuvolo runs on ServiceNow, a full Nuvolo comparison also needs to account for the ServiceNow instance it requires and the setup services around it, such as the packaged GxP setup quoted at 14 weeks.

Can Service Insight replace Nuvolo?

Yes, for lab and facility operations. Service Insight covers the asset registry and service history, preventive and corrective work orders, vendor and SLA tracking, calibration with as-found and as-left readings, IQ/OQ/PQ validation with e-signed records, and real-time equipment monitoring, all on one asset record. Enterprise real estate portfolio and capital project modules sit outside the lab and can stay where they are.

How does Service Insight enable predictive maintenance?

Service Insight connects equipment over long-range LoRaWAN and streams real-time condition and utilization data onto the same asset record as the work orders. Cortex turns that data into asset health reports, utilization reports and incident context, so teams can move from calendar-based preventive maintenance to maintenance driven by how equipment is actually running. AI maintenance recommendations in Cortex are coming soon.

Does Service Insight support 21 CFR Part 11?

Yes. Service Insight validation workflows are built for 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11, with IQ/OQ/PQ e-signed records, ALCOA+ audit trails and printable validation certificates. Calibration records capture as-found and as-left readings, tolerance checks with automatic pass/fail, out-of-tolerance flags and NIST-traceable evidence on the work order. Calibration and validation are included with Maintain.

How long does it take to switch from Nuvolo to Service Insight?

There is no ServiceNow instance to stand up first, so you can begin on Manage, free up to 200 assets, as soon as your asset register is imported. Timing for the full move depends on how many assets, sites and sensors you bring over. The move follows four steps: import assets and work order history, map the site hierarchy, add sensors to critical equipment, then move calibration and validation into Maintain. Our team plans the cutover with you.
