Service Insight vs XiltriX

XiltriX is a monitoring-only service built on its own sensors, stations and radio network, so alarms and the maintenance work they trigger live in separate systems. Service Insight puts monitoring, asset management, CMMS, calibration and validation on one asset record, with published pricing.

Why teams switch

An alarm is only the start. Service Insight connects it to the work that follows.

XiltriX tells you a freezer is out of range; the work order, the service history and the calibration record are not documented in XiltriX's software. Service Insight keeps monitoring, maintenance, calibration and validation on one asset record, so a lab can act on an excursion and prove it, in one place.

The Service Insight approach

  • One asset record. The alarm, the work order that resolves it, the calibration result and the validation record all sit on the same asset, in one system.
  • Open LoRaWAN. Long-range wireless with multi-year battery life, and you can use Service Insight devices or bring your own LoRaWAN devices.
  • Published pricing. Monitor is $395 per monitored asset per year and includes Manage; Manage alone is free up to 200 assets with unlimited users.
  • Calibration and validation built in. Maintain records as-found / as-left readings with automatic pass/fail and e-certificates, plus IQ/OQ/PQ with e-signed records.

The point-solution problem

  • Monitoring only, by design. XiltriX narrowed its focus to monitoring in 2018, and asset registers, work orders and calibration records are not documented in its public materials, so excursions are typically handed off to a separate maintenance system.
  • One vendor's hardware. Sensors run on XiltriX's own wired bus or 434 MHz wireless band through XiltriX monitoring stations, rather than an open wireless standard.
  • Quote-based buying. XiltriX publishes no prices; systems are bought as a capital purchase, a lease or a subscription through leasing partners.
  • Services on top. XiltriX lists implementation, calibration and preventive maintenance on an hourly basis, and recalibration of its sensors is sold as an annual service.

About Service Insight

Service Insight is the lab and facility operations platform for biotech and pharma: asset management (EAM), CMMS, calibration management and environmental, performance and utilization monitoring on one asset record. It was founded by Anthony Uzzo and James Gregory, who previously built Core Informatics (LIMS/ELN), acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2017.

Because monitoring and maintenance share one record, an excursion does not stop at an alarm. Monitor streams condition data from long-range LoRaWAN sensors on LN2 tanks, -80 °C freezers, CO2 incubators, cold rooms and rooms; Maintain holds the preventive and corrective work orders, vendor contracts and SLA performance, calibration with as-found / as-left readings and automatic pass/fail, and IQ/OQ/PQ validation with e-signed records and ALCOA+ audit trails, in workflows built for 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11. Manage ties it together with the asset registry, hierarchical locations from site to bench, scheduling, booking and ticketing.

That shared record is what lets teams move from calendar-based maintenance toward maintenance by condition. Cortex turns sensor data into asset health and utilization reports with incident context, and sensor-measured active vs idle time shows which equipment is actually used; AI maintenance recommendations are coming soon. Pricing is on the pricing page: Monitor is $395 per monitored asset per year with sensors and gateways quoted separately, and Manage is free up to 200 assets with unlimited users.

About XiltriX

XiltriX traces its roots to 1987, when it began in the Netherlands as Technisch Buro IKS. The company has been headquartered in Rosmalen since 2008, opened a North American office in San Diego in 2017, and in 2018 rebranded as XiltriX International with a focus on monitoring only. It says more than 24,000 people work with XiltriX, including nearly all academic hospitals in the Netherlands.

XiltriX is sold as a managed monitoring service. Its own independent sensors connect over a XiltriX wired bus, a 434 MHz wireless band or direct connections to XiltriX monitoring stations with backup batteries, and alarms escalate across app, SMS, email, an automatic phone dialler and local sirens while a XiltriX team watches system health around the clock. The system covers a wide parameter range, from -200 °C to +250 °C, plus CO2, O2, humidity, differential pressure, particle counts and LN2 level, and XiltriX supplies URS, functional specification, IQ, OQ and PQ documents.

The model reflects a classic point-solution approach: dedicated hardware, a separate monitoring system and a services relationship. Prices are quote-based, systems are bought by capital purchase, lease or subscription, and implementation, calibration and preventive maintenance are listed on an hourly basis. Asset registers, maintenance work orders and calibration records are not documented in its public materials, so those stay in whatever other system the lab already runs.

Switching from XiltriX to Service Insight

  1. Build the asset list first. Register monitored equipment in Manage, free up to 200 assets, using the Site, Building, Floor, Room and Bench hierarchy.
  2. Plan LoRaWAN coverage. Choose Service Insight devices or LoRaWAN devices you already own for each asset; sensors and gateways are quoted separately from the per-asset fee.
  3. Run in parallel and validate. Keep XiltriX live while the new sensors run alongside it, then complete IQ/OQ/PQ in Maintain with e-signed records before cutover.
  4. Put maintenance and calibration on the record. Set preventive maintenance and calibration schedules on each asset and confirm your on-call notifications, then retire the old alarm chain.

Questions

What is the best alternative to XiltriX for biotech and pharma labs?

Service Insight is the best alternative to XiltriX for biotech and pharma teams that want monitoring connected to the work it triggers. It puts real-time monitoring, asset management, CMMS, calibration and validation on one asset record, runs on open long-range LoRaWAN, and publishes its pricing.

Is Service Insight less expensive than XiltriX?

Service Insight publishes its prices and XiltriX does not, so you can budget Service Insight before talking to sales. Monitor is $395 per monitored asset per year and includes Manage, and Manage alone is free up to 200 assets with unlimited users; sensors and gateways are quoted separately. XiltriX is quote-based, sold by purchase, lease or subscription, and lists implementation, calibration and preventive maintenance on an hourly basis.

Can Service Insight replace XiltriX for freezer and incubator monitoring?

Yes. Service Insight monitors LN2 tanks, -80 °C ULT freezers, -20 °C freezers, 4 °C refrigerators, cold rooms and CO2 incubators with real-time alarms, and alarms go to your own team through configurable notifications. It also brings asset records, work orders, calibration and validation onto the same platform, none of which are documented in XiltriX's public materials. Running both in parallel before cutover is the safest path.

How does Service Insight connect monitoring to maintenance?

Sensor data, work orders, calibration results and validation records share one asset record, so an excursion leads straight to the work that resolves it. Cortex turns that condition and utilization data into asset health reports, which lets teams maintain equipment by condition rather than only by calendar. AI maintenance recommendations are coming soon.

Does Service Insight support 21 CFR Part 11?

Yes. Service Insight validation workflows are built for 21 CFR Part 11 and EU Annex 11, with IQ/OQ/PQ e-signed records, ALCOA+ audit trails and printable validation certificates in Maintain. Calibration results, including as-found / as-left readings and e-certificates, sit on the same asset record.

How long does switching from XiltriX take?

The timeline depends on how many assets and sites you have and on your validation scope. You can register assets in Manage for free right away, plan LoRaWAN coverage, run the new sensors in parallel with XiltriX, and complete IQ/OQ/PQ in Maintain before cutover.
